This year’s 70 Days Project looks at informed consent, in public health and in governance. What happens when errors and omissions go unaddressed?
Beyond the City of Lincoln reducing the chemically-added fluoride in our water by another point is a vote to remove the chemical from our water altogether and to further expand government oversight in Lincoln, and across Nebraska beginning with public health. As public health has positioned itself as the driving factor in all policy through its global Health in All Policies initiative, its influence and resources are vast.
Consider learning and sharing about oversight
As described by the Kennedy Center announcement in March, attorney Aaron Siri presented, “the most pressing health questions facing American parents and children, along with a critical examination of the science behind our major public policy debates.”
In his Kennedy Center presentation and interview with The Highwire host Del Bigtree, Siri makes the case for people to become informed and skilled in calmly communicating important public health positions. Claiming that government oversight has atrophied and enforcement lies in the courts, Siri contends that more informed people confidently speaking out will make a positive difference.
Calmly communicating which positions?
Braver Angels 2026 National Convention hosted a panel discussion on June 28 between Dr. John Ioannidis, Stanford professor, and Dr. Francis Collins, former NIH director, moderated by Wilk Wilkinson. While Dr. Ioannidis expressed a very uncommon yet heartfelt and compassionate description of COVID impacts, he drew a line, as most of us tend to do, by describing organized skepticism in science with regard for, “people who were skeptics… were very easily labeled and smeared” while disregarding and separating out people who were thinking, “flat earth, and… major, major things that are completely out of range.”
What things might Dr. Ioannidis consider completely out of range? Braver Angels provides skill-building for communicating better, across the divide. Which divides do you choose to consider, or not?
When should out of range not be considered?
The Children’s Health Defense military chapter released a presentation on June 30, Duty to Disobey, stories from military service members separated from service for not following orders to receive a Covid shot. How much information did these service members receive as recruits, about past misconduct and medical experimentation, prior to enlistment? This 70 Days will consider these questions.
